David Hockney's Westminster Abbey window

Artist David Hockney is to design a stained glass window in Westminster Abbey to celebrate the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Hockney, who some time ago turned down the chance to paint the monarch because he was too busy, said he has "planned a landscape full of blossom that's a celebration every year". Hockney has been a life long campaigner for gay rights and equalities and is recognized as the UK's greatest contemporary artist. It's nice to have him as one of our members of the RCA Society. The 6.1m x 1.8m window in Westminster Abbey's north transept will be known as The Queen's Window. Elizabeth II marks her 90th birthday (b. 21 April 1926) and scheduled to be installed by June 2018, coinciding with the planned opening of the Queen's Jubilee Gallery in the Abbey.
